Editorial Policy

Last updated

The Timid editorial policy explains how we choose topics, research them, write them, check them and correct them. We publish it so that you can judge our guides for yourself.

Our purpose

Timid helps shy and introverted people talk to others with less stress. We write plain-English guides on conversation, introvert life and social confidence. Our aim is to be useful, honest and kind.

How we choose topics

We pick topics from questions that readers ask and from search data on what people want to know. We do not write on a topic only because it is popular. Furthermore, we skip topics where we cannot give accurate, helpful advice.

How we research

  • We start with reputable sources, such as peer-reviewed research, public health bodies and recognised professional associations.
  • We prefer recent and primary sources over opinion posts.
  • We link to our main sources inside the guide so that you can read them.
  • We do not copy other websites. We write each guide in our own words.

How we write

  • We use plain English, short sentences and everyday examples.
  • We put the direct answer first, then explain it.
  • We avoid clickbait, exaggerated promises and fear-based language.
  • We write for readers in India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and elsewhere.

Fact-checking and review

A human editor on the Timid editorial team reviews every guide before it goes live. The editor checks facts against the listed sources and removes any claim that we cannot support. We may use software tools to help with research and drafting. However, a person is always responsible for the final text.

Health and wellbeing content

Timid shares general information only. We do not diagnose, treat or give personal advice. Therefore, our guides are not a substitute for a doctor, therapist or other qualified professional. Please read our disclaimer. If you feel unsafe or in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis helpline in your country.

Updates and corrections

We review our guides regularly and update them when advice or evidence changes. If you find a mistake, please tell us through the contact page. We check each report and correct confirmed errors as soon as we can.

Independence

Our editorial decisions are independent. Advertisers, partners and other organisations do not influence what we write. Read our independence statement for details.
